By now, you’ve probably heard about Chicago rapper, Juice WRLD’s surprise secret show at Concord Music Hall on July 2, 2018 presented by Apple Music.
For many young rappers exploring new territory, breaking the rules is the goal, but it still takes effort. For Juice WRLD, a 19-year-old artist from Calumet Park, IL, it seems to be second nature. He draws inspiration from a variety of genres and cites Chief Keef and Chicago’s drill scene as his main influences. What he’s making now is a progressive combination of lyricism and style perfectly suited for 2018 and beyond.
In Juice WRLD’s recently certified platinum smash, “Lucid Dreams,” you will assuredly recognize the Spanish-style guitar melody, lifted from the Sting’s 1993 classic, “Shape Of My Heart.” It’s a fresh take on a hip-hop staple that’s been sampled by everyone from Nas to the Roots, and yet, Juice makes it his very own on Ten Summoner’s Tales.
Since the show, Apple Music has released the first of three parts in the Up Next: Juice WRLD documentary series, showcasing the “Lucid Dreams” rapper, and his humble beginnings in Calumet Park and the City of Chicago.
The series includes exclusive interviews with the rising star, following him throughout his daily life. Stay tuned for part three due in mid-August, featuring clips from the secret show at Concord
